The temporary closure is necessary to allow new signals to be installed in the area during the 30-day closure of Huddersfield station. As a result, there will be times when trains are stationary over the crossing, preventing pedestrian access.
Located between Greenfield and Marsden stations, on the edge of Uppermill village, the crossing connects the Huddersfield to Manchester railway line.
Alternative routes are available, and TRU are encouraging the local community to plan their journeys ahead of time.
This work is part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade, which is transforming journeys across the North, better connecting towns and cities through more frequent, faster trains running on a cleaner, greener and more reliable railway.
At both Mossley and Greenfield station, TRU are proposing to complete major upgrades, making both stations fully accessible, increasing the length of platforms to accommodate longer trains with more seats, and installing improved customer facilities.
Kristian Willis, senior programme manager for TRU, said: “Safety is our number one priority, which is why we need to temporarily close the crossing – it cannot be used safely whilst trains wait for permission to pass.
“We encourage anyone who travels through this area to plan ahead and explore alternative routes during this six-month period and thank the community for their continued support and understanding.”
