As part of Volunteers week, TRU have sponsored a third new mile of the Canal within Dewsbury. A group of staff would be needed to help with clearing the tow paths, litter picking and pruning some of the overgrown vegetation to make the paths more usable for the community to enjoy.
Throughout the day the team did a number of tasks such as digging back the edge of the footpath to make the paths wider, along with cutting back overgrown vegetation areas and little picking.
Volunteering offers a wide range of benefits to staff including personal and professional growth, building connections with colleagues and the opportunity to make a real difference to the local community.
A busy day of volunteering for the TRU team. With gloves and brushes at the ready, fourteen team members joined the Canal & River Trust at Lock 3 on the Huddersfield Broad Canal.
TRU team got to work scraping and painting the lock whilst removing any overgrown vegetation. Plastics and rubbish are an ongoing challenge for our canals and everyone worked hard to clear and tidy the area for the community and visitors to enjoy.
