North Huddersfield Trust School received a donation of £5600 to build an Eco garden. The funds came from the revenue Ecofficiency, a waste management company, generated removing waste from Hill House compound. The company had put 0.5% of their turn over aside for social value projects.
The challenge was for TRU staff to donate two days away from the project to implement the schools design, which was limited due to the ownership of the land. The social value team worked alongside the technical team to deliver the school’s plan. Volunteers from TRU and Ecofficiency worked together to create a new shale path, planted a number of trees and created a large number of planting tubs in line with the school grounds policy.
The garden has given the students a new area to enjoy in their break times, it’s also a place to go and remember five fellow students who have tragically passed away. This space will help the students who need a quiet calming spot to come when they are feeling stressed.
