We want to keep passengers moving on trains as much as possible while we deliver our major railway improvements on the Transpennine Route Upgrade. Our upgrades are complex and extensive which means we’ll need to close parts of the railway to do it.
We’re upgrading some of the railway lines close to the Transpennine route that we’ll use as ‘diversions’ while TRU work takes place to keep passengers on trains as much as we can.

We’ve installed a brand new track connection in and out of Holbeck depot in Leeds, so that Northern’s train fleet can enter and exit the depot much more efficiently. A disused rail facility in Wakefield has been given a new lease of life to provide temporary accommodation for trains, as work on the multi-billion-pound Transpennine Route Upgrade progresses.
We’ve taken huge step forward in improving productivity on TRU, by opening Gascoigne Wood logistics hub, that will support our project teams working in the area.
