Upgrading the Transpennine main line is a huge job. This means that, at times, we’ll need to close certain parts of the railway so we can make it more reliable and greener. When this happens, we’ll get you to where you’re going on a diversion route, or on a high quality bus or coach with comfy seats.

Here are some upcoming changes to services that might impact your journey:
Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 April 2024
Trains through Huddersfield

What’s Happening?

We will be carrying out work as part of the major upgrade of Huddersfield Station.

How are train services affected?

No trains will be able to run to, from or through Huddersfield.

Train services will be diverted or replaced by buses.

Timetables will be confirmed shortly.

Trains between Huddersfield and Leeds

What’s Happening?

We’re completely replacing the track in the Morley area to provide smoother, more reliable journeys. 

How are train services affected?

These details are still to be confirmed by the train operator – check your journey at National Rail Enquiries or with your train operators TransPennine Express or Northern.

  • Liverpool-Newcastle services will be diverted between Huddersfield and Leeds via Wakefield Kirkgate, increasing journey times.
  • Manchester-Saltburn services will start and finish at Manchester Victoria instead of Manchester Airport. They will be diverted between Huddersfield and Leeds via Wakefield Kirkgate, increasing journey times.
  • Manchester Piccadilly-Hull services will run hourly between Leeds and Hull only.
  • Wigan-Leeds services will be diverted between Hebden Bridge and Leeds via Bradford Interchange

Rail replacement bus services will run between:

  • Manchester Airport-Huddersfield via Stockport hourly
  • Huddersfield-Dewsbury-Leeds (fast) hourly
  • Huddersfield-Dewsbury-Leeds (all stations) hourly
  • Dewsbury-Leeds (fast) hourly
  • Halifax-Brighouse-Dewsbury-Leeds

Trains between Leeds and York

What’s Happening?

We will be replacing a railway bridge which is approaching life-expiry. This will enable more frequent, faster, heavier passenger and freight trains to run in the future.

How are train services affected?

Services between Leeds and York will be diverted via Castleford.

Local stations between Leeds and York will be served by rail replacement buses.

Services between Leeds, Selby and Hull will continue to run.
