Ravensthorpe Station has been an integral part of West Yorkshire’s railway system since the 19th century. Once a key location for freight and passenger services, it continues to connect communities in Kirklees. Managed by Northern, the station is undergoing significant redevelopment as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU), including track realignment for better capacity.
Ravensthorpe station closure
Ravensthorpe station is currently shut until summer 2028 to enable the construction of a brand-new station, located 200m west of the current site.
The rail replacement bus service currently operating between Ravensthorpe and Dewsbury station is scheduled to end after 16 May 2026, coinciding with the May timetable change which takes place on 17 May 2026.
The bus service has been in place since the closure of Ravensthorpe station in December 2025. However, demand has been very lowand continuing the service is not considered to be a viable or efficient use of public funds.
Customers can continue their journeys by travelling directly to Dewsbury or Mirfield railway stations, where trains continue to operate, offering connections to both local and intercity services. Frequent local bus services remain available for travel between Dewsbury, Ravensthorpe and Mirfield, including the 202, 203 and 205 services.

Visit National RailRavensthorpe station will be relocated 200 meters west of its current location and will feature an island platform, allowing longer trains to stop at the station and more space and seats for customers.
The station will feature two platforms that are fully accessible and step-free. This improvement ensures customers, including those with disabilities, can navigate the station easily.
A new footbridge will be constructed to enhance connectivity between platforms. This will make transferring between trains quicker and easier, reducing travel time for customers.
Installation of new lifts will be added to improve accessibility for individuals with mobility challenges, promoting inclusivity and facilitating smoother access to platforms.
The station will benefit from upgraded lighting and CCTV, Customer Information Screens will be installed to keep you informed about train times and reducing uncertainty for customers.
Sustainability initiatives, such as green roofs and energy-efficient options, will be integrated into the station design. These measures will contribute to a healthier environment, benefiting the community and reducing the station’s ecological footprint.
