York

One of Britain’s most historic railway stations, York is a key interchange with a rich past dating back to 1839. Famous for its grand Victorian architecture and proximity to the National Railway Museum, it remains a major transport hub. Managed by London North Eastern Railway (LNER), the station is undergoing enhancements to support increased rail demand and future growth.

Benefits for York

  • We have replaced two heavily-used sets of track points, which allow trains in and out of Holgate Sidings from the main lines.

These are crossed over by 100 passenger and freight trains each day and were approaching life-expiry. Replacing them will help ensure that trains arriving in York from Leeds run reliably.

This is a key part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU), which will transform journeys across the North, better connecting towns and cities by delivering more frequent, faster trains between Manchester, Leeds and York on a greener, more reliable railway.
