Manchester to Huddersfield

From urban Greater Manchester to the wild Pennine hills, this 26-mile section of TRU is one of great contrasts. Likewise, our upgrades in this section are at very different stages, with most improvements between Manchester and Stalybridge now delivered, whilst we continue to develop plans to transform the line between Stalybridge and Huddersfield.

Greater Manchester Improvements

We’ve already carried out major improvements between Manchester and Stalybridge in Summer and Winter 2021 including completely reconstructing two bridges, installing a new track layout at Miles Platting to enable trains to run faster, together with improving track and upgrading signalling equipment outside Manchester Victoria to help to bring a more modern, reliable railway and creating the capacity for more trains to run in the future, improving connectivity across the North.
