In June 2022 we were given the green light to upgrade the section of railway between Huddersfield and Westtown (Dewsbury) to deliver passenger benefits along the Transpennine mainline.
In 2022, Huddersfield station celebrated not only its 175th birthday but a new future, as the Transpennine Route Upgrade announced it will significantly improve its facilities, giving the people it serves a station truly fit for the 21st century.
This 172-year-old footbridge north of Huddersfield was replaced with a taller bridge, giving us the space needed to eventually install overhead electric wires. This will make it possible for electric trains to run through the area in the future, bringing a cleaner, quieter railway for residents and passengers.
To help make the railway a safer place, we’ve replaced Lady Anne level crossing with an easy-to-access footbridge.
A fully accessible station is set to open, which will boast longer platforms to provide space for faster, more frequent, greener trains with more seats available for passengers.
